Lolo Jones, winner of both the USA championships and the World Championships in hurdle events is able to reach her present place with much effort as well as a lot of perseverance. Jones was raised with the most difficult of lives as the child of a single mother who had five other children. Her mother had been constantly shifting and even lived at the bottom of her home. Jones was required to go to the same high school each year due to her nomadic lifestyle. Jones was forced to move away from her mother at Theodore Roosevelt School to pursue her love of track. Jones lived in four different homes during her high school years in order to study at one location. Jones, a cellist in the school's orchestra and the winner of the Gatorade Iowa track and field award for athlete of the Year earned her the Gatorade Iowa Athlete Award at the close of her high school career.
